  • Fort Smith City Mayor

    Wayne Haver

    Official Campaign Website:

Hi, I am Wayne Haver, candidate for mayor. My entire life has been about service…service to our country, service to our community, and service to God. I served my country in the Army at Fort Hood, Texas, and on Quang Tri Combat Base in Vietnam. I’ve been married to Jan O’Neel Haver for 54 years, and we both serve at First Baptist Church. I served our city as a teacher and principal at Southside High School for 48 years. I am beginning my fifteenth year as an Airport Commissioner and have also served on the boards of the Fort Smith Girl’s Shelter and the Federal Teacher’s Credit Union. I have a proven record of leadership and I want to continue serving the city as your next mayor.

I will work with the City Administrator and the Fort Smith Board of Directors to:
    1. Work to get relief from the Consent Decree Agreement with the EPA by extending the time allowed for completing the mandate to improve our water and sanitary sewer system.
    2. Provide more job opportunities for the citizens of Fort Smith.
    3. Find ways to keep our young people and their talents in Fort Smith.
    4. Increase the recreational and entertainment opportunities in Fort Smith.
    5. Identify and reduce wasteful/unnecessary spending.
    6. Make it easier to start a new business in Fort Smith by decreasing the time it takes to get the required permits and making it a one step process within 30 days.
    7. Focus on the positives of Fort Smith such as the educational system (public and private schools and UAFS), transportation system (highway, waterway, rail system, and airport), Chaffee Crossing, historical heritage of Fort Smith, the largest landfill in the state, and the friendliness of our people.
I want to see Fort Smith grow economically and become the first choice of new industry. Fort Smith can have a bright future with positive leadership and all of us working together.
